Are These Clothes Modest?

At first glance, you may wonder why I put these stores on my site. I include them because some of the items they sell work well for modest dressers. You know all those glittery, glitzy tunics you see in all the stores these days…they are Indian kurtis, and most of these stores sell them. Have you seen an Indo-Pak trouser suit? They are traditional salwar kameez redesigned for a hip, modern look. I had a trouser suit custom-made for my measurements and modesty preferences (long sleeves, a modest neckline, and lining).

The greatest added value you get from buying at these stores is that many of them make your clothing to your measurements and fit preferences. That’s how ladies in Pakistan and India generally get their clothing—they buy the three-piece fabric set (for salwar, kameez, and dupatta), and then have their tailor sew it for them…whatever design they want. I even have a tailor in Pakistan who sews me up a bunch of clothing every time I visit. It’s so much fun shopping the markets for fabric sets!

You don’t have to wait forever for your clothing to be custom sewn. For some of the stores, custom sewing is their preferred way of doing things, so they are very efficient at completing your order in due time. If you are tall, petite, plus-sized, and/or pregnant, the custom-sewn service is a very good deal!
